My name is Marikka Zavas and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Oahu, Hawaii, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with women and specialize in anxiety, stress, and life transitions. I utilize evidence-based, holistic modalities such as Holistic Therapy, Somatic & Attachment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Movement Therapy, Existential Therapy, Mindfulness-Based, and Solutions Focused help my clients make progress and start feeling better. This provider resides in Hawaii.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I believe that as the client, you are the expert of your life and I am here to help you reach your goals. Using a solution-focused model blended with other evidence-based and holistic modalities, with a focus on the here and now, you will learn the coping skills, tools, and resources so that you can graduate from therapy! With the intent that you feel stronger in yourself so that you need not rely on a therapist, but use your own skills to navigate your life
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for women (18+) who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. This often takes the form of anxiety, increased stress, feelings of overwhelm, and low self-esteem. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods to develop a more positive outlook that help you discover the necessary tools within and around you to reach and maintain balance in your inner and outer world.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, friendly, personable, and honest. I pride myself on my ability to create a safe space during sessions where my clients feel comfortable talking with me about anything without the fear of being judged.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always had a passion for helping other people. Whether it was a peer mediator in school or helping my friends and family with various situations, I light up being able to help those around me. I've always enjoyed talking story with people in my community and had a drive for helping people. Becoming a therapist was a natural byproduct of following my heart.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together as a team to create a personalized plan around what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us, gaining clarity around your intentions/ motivations for therapy, and then creating realistic, attainable goals. Over that time, we'll work together, track your progress, and make changes along the way as needed.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently, any particular stressors, the symptoms you've been experiencing, and your overall goals for therapy. I will be asking you questions to better understand who you are as an individual, building an initial connection, and getting a sense of where we should go from there.
