Hi, this is Jennifer Kirkland, Ph.D. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of clinical experience. I partner with each person I work with to create a space of warmth and acceptance so we can work together to create for you a better life.
My approach
I use a strength-based approach and embrace issues of identity and diversity in the process. I use positive, narrative techniques and evidence-based methods as the foundations for change.
My focus
Over the years I have been honored to partner with a wide variety of people. While doing so I have come to appreciate the strengths and resilience of those facing life challenges. Chronic stress, anxiety, grief, chronic medical issues, and developmental stressors or transitions are among some of the many presenting issues for which clients have sought help.
My communication style
First and foremost, I believe that the client is the expert on self and life experience. You have been with yourself your entire life. You know you best. I am in the session to join you, to hear and fully understand your presenting issues, and support the process of change.
My journey to mental healthcare
My desire to support and help create health and healing has been lifelong. I have worked in many different areas of mental health, but find that working directly with individuals provides a powerful tool for creating positive change. I have found that healing on an individual level can spread to couples, to families, and even to communities. We can all have a profound positive impact on society by focusing on healing, one person at a time.
My goals for you
Clients decide what they need to work on. I help with the process of refining those goals to help make them manageable and attainable.
My first session with you
The starting point of any relationship comes from a place of acceptance and trust. People need to feel heard, respected, and understood. I do my best to gain an understanding of the reasons for seeking treatment and the need for support that comes from reaching out for help.
