THIS PROVIDER ONLY ACCEPTS PATIENTS WHO ARE PREPARING FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY OR FOR THERAPY AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY. Hello! My name is Dr. Julie Oliveira-Payton. I love to help people decide, prepare for, and celebrate their decision to have bariatric surgery. I have a doctoral degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Master's degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I am also board-certified as a Bariatric Counselor and hold a License in Clinical Social Work.
My approach
Through a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, and Supportive Counseling, we'll work together to help you prepare for bariatric surgery and post-surgery follow-up.
My focus
As a board-certified Bariatric Surgery counselor, with over 15 years of experience in treating depression, anxiety, transfer addiction, insomnia, and early childhood trauma, you and I will develop a solution-focused plan for pre and post-bariatric surgery skills.
My communication style
At the start of each session, you'll decide what you'd like to work on for the session. You and I will discuss the goals for the session, what we hope to accomplish, and review our action plan. At the end of the session, we'll review your confidence & motivation levels to ensure solutions & next steps for productive sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
What makes my heart sing, is watching people transform their lives. I have been blessed to walk this journey of a 2nd chance of life with bariatric surgery patients for over 15 years.
My goals for you
We'll set action plans, and SMART goals to make them Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
My first session with you
Our first session will consist of developing an overall action plan for our time together. I'll ask questions related to the problem, your symptoms, and your current coping mechanisms. We'll close with a plan for what to expect for our next session.
