My name is Tyson Ortiz and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who was born and raised on the Big Island. I have spent the last eight years working with victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence and those struggling with addiction. I am in my 20th year of social work and find that the best approach is whatever works best for my client. That can be different for each person.
My approach
Some benefit from EMDR to eliminate negative cognitions, while others benefit most from having a sounding board to talk through situations. You are the expert on your life, don’t settle until you find the right fit.
My focus
My typical clients have a history of trauma, are struggling to cope with life stressors, may have been court-ordered into services, or are just desperate for a positive change.
My communication style
Creating a safe and non-judgmental space is my priority so that you can feel comfortable speaking your mind and being yourself.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was inspired by my mother who retired as a social worker. I helped her with her work projects as a child. I grew up witnessing family members suffer from mental illness and the consequences of untreated childhood trauma. I have known since childhood that I wanted to help people. My compassion drives me.
My goals for you
I ask directly what you would like to work on and what you’re striving for. This may change over time and that is normal. But the therapy focus is driven by you.
My first session with you
This feels like a chat about what has been bothering you or what has brought you to seek a counselor.
