Aloha, my name is Kristen Canencia, and I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT). I am warm and welcoming in my approach to therapy. My specialties include communication, family conflict, coping skills, relationship issues, transition/adjustment, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation. This provider resides in Hawaii.
My approach
My therapy approach is trauma-informed, integrative and collaborative. The most common theoretical approaches used in my work include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
My focus
I have experience working with adolescents and adults. I am most comfortable working with clients experiencing anxiety and adjustment disorders.
My communication style
I am most passionate about creating a therapeutic environment that is safe and welcoming to allow clients to navigate life's challenges, heal and grow. I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure they are empowered in our sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
My attraction to therapy first stemmed from the idea of looking at issues from a systemic family view. This drew me into obtaining my license in Marriage and Family Therapy. I love digging deeper into a client's relationship with themself as I believe it is the most important relationship, therefore understanding how the inter-relationship with self affects their relationship with others.
My goals for you
I believe that clients seek therapy with a goal/reason in mind. I approach goals by processing with clients what they would like to get out of therapy. Together we will set meaningful goals that will allow you to live a safe, healthy, and authentic life.
My first session with you
In a first session with me, clients should expect that I would ask questions to get to know them. My questions would include questions about themself, their close relationships, family connections, issues bringing them to therapy, etc.
