My name is Yasmin Somnath, a licensed mental Health Counselor in the state of Hawaii. I use an eclectic approach with my clients where I incorporate Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques.
My approach
I approach mental health from a holistic perspective, where the body, mind, and soul are of equal importance to promote good mental health.
My focus
I generally work with adult clients who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, past trauma, or general life changes.
My communication style
I feel it is important to give you an environment where you feel supported, respected, and safe to talk about the issues that are affecting you. I always strive to be nonjudgmental and culturally sensitive to all.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always wanted to help others, I started in education as a teacher and decided to get a master's degree. I wasn't sure what degree I wanted, but after I took my first counseling course, I knew this was for me. And I am grateful to have a career where I am able to help others.
My goals for you
I view therapy as a collaboration. During our initial session, I listen to get a feel of what changes you want to see, or what issues may want to process through. We go at your pace and tackle issues when you are ready.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will briefly go over your general data, and mental health history, discuss what you hope to achieve in counseling, and set goals.
