Aloha, my name is Jane Leng and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based Oahu, Hawaii working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults ages 18 and over, and specialize in trauma, grief, loss, depression and anxiety,
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with Internal Family Systems and Somatic Sensory Awareness, these modalities help my clients build shared understanding of their internal wisdom and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
I find that working with adults who are going through the challenges of life transitions, such as relationship changes, school/work dynamics, family of origin resolution a This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and intense overwhelm. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills that empower them to create positive relational bonds and a hopeful outlook for the future.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, sometimes playful, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about their struggles and fears, and I believe that each client can set the pace of what they feel comfortable discussing and I will honor their journey with gentleness and kindness.
My journey to mental healthcare
Since childhood, I have held onto a core belief that despite immense struggles, every human can discover their innate joy and internal wisdom. I worked for several years with at-risk youth who were longing for a secure family bond. I honor the words of Brene Brown who writes "We are all deserving of love and belonging." As a therapist, I am passionate about promoting access to each of my client's healing and growth. I have over a decade of working as a hospice social worker, I learned of the power of a gentle presence, listening, and affirming every individual's life journey so I offer that same to each individual client that I am gifted with.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Toward the end of each session, I will review the goals providing revision as the internal awareness grows.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work.
