My name is David Shaku and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Workplace Mindfulness Facilitator, and trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR through the Parnell Institute. My approach focuses on the treatment of big "T" and little "t" trauma by focusing on getting to know and guiding progress with my clients at their own pace.
My approach
My approach to behavioral health is grounded in the harm reduction framework. In taking time to get to know people on their own terms. In how people relate to the various stresses that bring them into care. In a version of recovery that extends beyond substance use and into what a person uses substances to find relief from. This approach blends well with the treatment of trauma through the lens of attachment and attachment repair through AF-EMDR. I also rely on meditation, both in my daily life and in offering to guide clients who wish to begin or strengthen their practice.
My focus
I have experience working with adult individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+, living with HIV, and veterans. I am happy to work with individuals regardless of their diagnosis, as trauma does not discriminate. I am also happy to work with individuals living with substance use disorder, both in recovery and actively using.
My communication style
Motivational Interviewing is a core part of my communication style with clients. I see my role as a guide to help clients find their way back to wholeness through whatever path feels most right to them.
