I am Terilynn Salas, a Doctor of Social Work with a clinical license from Hawaii. I have over 10 years of experience as a professional counselor and specialize in trauma recovery.
My approach
My therapeutic approach primarily operates from psychodynamic therapy which is useful in exploring internal unresolved conflicts contributing to emotional and relationship challenges, as well as patterns of self-destructive behaviors that may interfere with one's life satisfaction.
My focus
I've spent a lot of time helping clients with stress and anxiety, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, & coping with grief and loss.
My communication style
I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
Therapy takes courage for honest and sometimes painful self-reflection and daunting change, to witness this in others is a privilege and sacred act of trust and caring. This continues to motivate me in this work.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is flexible and client-centered. We will continually assess your satisfaction with treatment progress and any movement or direction you may be interested in throughout our therapeutic experience.
My first session with you
During our initial therapy session client informed consent will be discussed including benefits of therapy, limits of telehealth, and client confidentiality, with agreement regarding treatment goals and length of treatment. Your primary challenges will be discussed such as your symptoms and what brought you to therapy and we may also briefly begin to review some aspects of your history such as previous counseling, childhood experiences, education, and relationships.
