Hello, I am Dr. Heather Chapman, a distinguished counselor with a Doctorate in Psychology, holding dual licensures as a Mental Health Counselor and a Behavior Analyst. Specializing in working with children and adults affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD, my mission is to provide compassionate and effective support to help individuals and their families navigate the unique challenges of these conditions and achieve their full potential.
My approach
I specialize in Applied Behavior Analysis and Cognitive behavior therapy. I am a client-centered therapist, that knows how to take your strengths and turn them into coping skills for healthy living.
My focus
I am devoted to early intervention and counseling for families. I also specialize in counseling adults with social deficits, often diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, in finding better relationships with loved ones, obtaining employment, and finding overall happiness within themselves. I am comfortable working with anyone, and any condition.
My communication style
My Communication style is very positive. It feels like you have a cheerleader in your corner, someone coaching you along this therapeutic journey. I may add in some homework or tasks to assist in behavior change practices, however it is always at the pace and choice of my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
Heather became interested in human well-being and happiness at a young age, and time only fueled her passion for helping others. During her graduate education, Heather worked in behavioral health hospitals servicing children and adults with mental health needs. Once graduated with her first Masters, Heather worked as a school counselor. Heather later became an Autism school psychologist for the DOE, where she worked with students with severe behavior needs. She has also worked with adults with mental health needs, and assisted in getting her clients the best services and therapy to strive in society. Heather has worked in the community and schools for over 15 years. Heather is passionate about helping others overcome anything in the way of enjoying the life we all deserve. She is dedicated to helping others tap into their innate and unbreakable inner resilience and courage, and teaching her clients how to self-advocate for themselves in living their best lives.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as a very individualized planning, where the student learns how to track and take data of their own behaviors. The goal setting is always driven by what the client wants to achieve in their therapy journey.
My first session with you
A lot of getting to know you questions, and a very positive and supportive listening environment.
