Aloha! My name is Roger Kaina Watson(He/Him/His) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW) located in Hawaii on the island of Oahu and working with individuals statewide through telehealth. My overall approach to therapy is Client-centered, strength-based, and focused on the needs of the clients. My clientele will focus on those who have difficulty with anxiety, behavior, relationships, transitioning among other mental health and life challenges. I have experience providing services for children, teens, LGBTQIA, and Adults.
My approach
My approach to therapy will vary based on the needs of the client, so because of that, I will utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities along with cultural components toward positive mental health outcomes. Overall, I will start where the client is, build a plan, and set goals together to achieve the outcomes the client is satisfied with.
My focus
I have provided a wide range of services over the last 20 years, from children to adults, individuals and groups, and families. My passion has always been serving our Native Hawaiian people and families. However, my ability to work with many different cultures and issues has helped me to be diverse in my style and approach. My ability to develop great relationships with people is my biggest strength and I have been able to utilize that to build rapport and relationships with my clients to provide successful outcomes for them. At this time, I’m looking to work with clients who need support with anxiety and stressors of everyday life. I believe I can support individuals to find solutions to their troubles in all aspects of their lives.
My communication style
I create a warm, calm, and positive environment with people. I ensure trust, confidentiality, and honesty to build great rapport. Lastly, my compassion and empathy for my clients ultimately create a willingness to be comfortable to open up and share.
My journey to mental healthcare
Ultimately what drove me to work in this field is my passion to create change for the better. My passion comes from experiencing the struggles our Native Hawaiian people, language, and culture have suffered. I have been blessed with opportunities in life, and I'm don't come from much or raised in wealth. However, my opportunities gave me the mindset that if I can why can't others? Why do our Native Hawaiian people struggle in health statistics, financially and educationally? It has become my goal to live by example, and to be an agent of change and share and support our people of Hawaii. Eo na Kanaka o Hawaii!!
My goals for you
The best way I approach goal setting with clients is to create goals together. I can help to provide insight, ultimately it will be client-driven.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session is for us to take the time to discuss how you’ve been feeling and to get an understanding of what your expectations are for therapy. The first session is to see if I could be a good fit for you and make that initial client-therapist connection. Lastly, through our discussion, decide how we want to move forward and what is best for both you and I.
