My name is Aiyana Kanakaole and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker born and raised on the island of Maui. I offer therapy via telehealth across Hawaii. My background includes working with adults living with chronic illnesses, depression, anxiety, complex family dynamics, and substance use.
My approach
My approach is client-centered and focused on providing a safe space where you can feel comfortable in sharing your thoughts, feelings, and needs. I use Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy to elicit your goals for therapy. Through collaboration, I hope to help support you in working towards your goals and overall wellness.
My focus
I have found that my approach and style work well for adults navigating life transitions, life stressors, anxiety, and depression. I hope to provide a space where you feel seen and heard, help you identify or develop coping skills, and help improve your quality of life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, non-confrontational, and non-judgmental. I am open and very receptive to feedback and hope that you will feel comfortable sharing what is and what is not working for you in my approach.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have worked in medical social work for most of my career up until now. I knew I wanted to provide therapy at some point and finally had the opportunity to make that pivot. I am passionate about therapy, helping and accompanying others navigate through difficult moments.
My goals for you
I like to invite clients to share their goals or hopes for therapy with me. With open communication, time, and trust, I hope we can work together towards these goals.
My first session with you
I see a first session as an opportunity to understand your needs and expectations from therapy. A first session with me would be an open dialogue about how you are experiencing life now and what kind of support you would like. I would like to understand what approach works for you and if we will be a good fit.
