Hi! I am Shelby Kolek, LCSW. I am a humanistic relational therapist who focuses on you as a person, where you are in the moment. I will meet you where you are, support, encourage, and uplift you. I believe that being vulnerable is hard and it takes time to build rapport and open up, but we can do hard things together.
My approach
I approach therapy as a person-centered, strength-based, and humanistic approach. I will listen to you, laugh with you, and hold space for you whenever you need me to.
My focus
I have worked with adults aged 18-50. I have worked in depth with military members, their spouses/families, and couples experiencing every day/job stress, marital stress, confidence issues, parenting burdens, and transitions.
My communication style
I set a very relaxed, comfortable environment in my sessions. I speak to you as a human, not as a patient. We are equals in the room and I will be your biggest support and cheerleader throughout your healing journey.
My goals for you
We discuss goals and the reason they are there so we can refer back to things, but healing isn't linear and goals and plans can change at any point.
My first session with you
Building rapport and our relationship is the first step in therapy. I do not expect you to come in and be an open book. Being vulnerable is HARD. In my first sessions, I like to get to know you, know why you are seeking therapy, and lay the foundation for our therapeutic relationship together.
