Hi. My name is Sophia Hoskins, and I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My counseling style is pretty laid-back. I have been described as supportive, caring, and compassionate, with a pretty good sense of humor. I like to focus on identifying your strengths and helping you to maximize them to overcome your obstacles. I'm here to help you sort through the things that may be difficult right now and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment. I believe therapy is just support and everyone deserves support at some point in their lives.
My approach
I believe all my clients are experts on themselves and my role is to support people in finding the path that works best for them. Everyone is different but I generally use a lot of Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Mindfulness Therapy, and Emotional Focused Therapy.
My focus
I enjoy working with individuals and couples. I feel comfortable working with relationship issues, managing anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
My communication style
I try to match the energy of the person/people I'm working with but I'm generally calm, centered, and present.
My journey to mental healthcare
My family and friends always seem to come to me with their problems and I enjoyed connected with people. My nephew had ADHD as a child and I wanted to help him so I started taking psychology classes and found it fascinating, which led me to my MSCP.
My goals for you
I usually use the miracle question in the first session and help clients develop a plan to achieve their goals. I will review with the client/client's progress on goals weekly.
My first session with you
Clients can expect to feel heard and walk away with a plan for their therapy goals after the first session with me.
