Hi there, I'm Jeffrey!

My name is Jeff Fry I am an LCSW. I have been in mental health for over 33 years. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I see people with a variety of issues. My primary specialities are ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Grief, and relationship issues.

My approach

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT has been researched to be overall the most effective treatment modality in mental health. I do borrow from DBT and Solution Focused. I try to help people make healthy changes in the way they think, behave, and feel. This is a fairly direct approach that often yields results rather quickly. I want people to feel positive results as soon as possible.

My focus

I work with a wide range of people. I have seen kids as young as 5 and adults 65 and sometimes even older. I work with couples and families. I have seen people from all walks of life. Religions and cultures of all kinds. I have worked with LGBTQIA people for over 30 years as well. ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Anger, Relationship issues are some of the many things I have dealt with. I have found that people can't be put in simple boxes and therefore I will need to adjust and be comfortable with whatever someone comes to the therapy needing.

My communication style

My style is friendly and relaxed, but direct. When I work with people I want them to feel comfortable and maybe even laugh a bit if it is warranted. So in the first session, my opening is most often "What can I do for you today" I want people to feel comfortable in stating what is going on with them. Then together we will come up with some goals to work on before the session ends. I have had people say that they felt the first session already had significantly helped them.

My journey to mental healthcare

I come from a family of helpers. I was helping my 2nd-grade teacher with another student who I now know had an autistic spectrum disorder. I was blessed with a supportive and loving family that encouraged good work. Protecting people who are being mistreated and treating them with dignity was of the highest priority for my family. I was blessed with early puberty and a protective nature. I would essentially confront bullies and get them to back down. In college, the president of my fraternity chapter without my foreknowledge stood up in a meeting of all the brothers and said. "If anyone is having any emotional problems go see Jeff' People were already coming to me for help. So therapy was almost a foregone conclusion for me. I have been helping children, families, and adults now for over 33 years. I have said that on my worst day, I say to myself that if I can help someone today that might mean they are in a better place that will allow them to perhaps help someone that I love if they stumble across them in an emergency. I do want to feel that when my time has come, I will have left the world in a better place because of my efforts.

My goals for you

When we determine what are the biggest concerns for that person we talk about what needs to happen in order to make progress in that area. We discuss an action plan. They will finish a session knowing what they need to work on. In the following sessions, we will review progress in the goal areas.

My first session with you

They will be asked to relay what is going on. I will ask follow-up questions and make suggestions on possible solutions. I will try to explain the possible reasons behind their challenges. So there will be explanations for why certain thoughts, feelings, or behaviors have been occurring will be shared. I strive for people to have an understanding of what has been and is happening, and why the new way of dealing with things will hopefully be effective.
