Hi there, I'm Marcus!

Hi, I'm Marcus! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), based in Atlanta, Georgia, working with clients statewide and locally via telehealth and in-person sessions. I believe in every client’s capacity for growth and healing and I’m all about creating a safe, judgment-free space to help clients find a way forward and break free from self-defeating patterns.

My approach

In our therapy session, you can expect me to take time to get to know you and create a safe, comfortable space where you can feel truly seen, heard, and understood. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and any conflicts or beliefs that may be holding you back. I’ll provide practical feedback that you can apply in your daily life, helping you to increase your clarity and deepen your self-awareness. Many of my clients have said I hold a good balance of both challenging and affirming them. Whether you’re seeking support during a difficult time, facing relationship issues, or looking to make meaningful changes in your life, I’m here to support you on your journey of self-discovery and healing.

My focus

I work best with clients who are motivated to engage in the deep work that therapy requires. If you bring openness, curiosity, and a willingness to explore the challenges in your life, we will be a great fit. Together, we can navigate the complexities of your experiences and work towards your goals. Therapy works if you work it.

My communication style

Working with me feels like talking with both a friend and a professional simultaneously. I have a deep respect and delight for my clients and strive to maintain a therapeutic environment that doesn't feel stuffy; however, also feels like you're talking with a competent professional you can trust to support you.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have dedicated my career to the helping professions, beginning as a hospital and hospice chaplain before pursuing a Master of Social Work degree to become a therapist. While my work in spiritual care was deeply rewarding, I wanted to engage with people in a more profound and long-term way, supporting them before they reach end-of-life or critical illness. As a therapist, I bring not only my professional expertise but also my personal experience as a consumer of therapy. I have sat on the couch and know what it feels like to be a client. This journey has helped me understand myself and overcome long-standing patterns that once held me back.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting uniquely with each client. For some clients, it takes a little bit of time to determine what it is they are working towards in therapy, while others are clear right from the start. In my experience, clients with clearer, more affirmative goals about what they want for themselves vs. what they don't want have more success in therapy.

My first session with you

In our first session, we will have an initial intake where we will begin getting to know each other. I will ask pertinent questions about what brings you to therapy at this time and allow you space to talk to me about anything you feel is important to my ability to help you. In the following session, I will complete an attachment history. This is important for me to understand your early life experiences that have shaped you and will help us make connections throughout the therapy. The remainder of therapy will be in talk therapy fashion, where you will bring in what you would like to discuss from session to session. As your therapist, I don't choose what we talk about, as I believe it is important for you to take responsibility for your therapeutic experience; however, if you are feeling stuck sometimes, I will help prompt you to help you find your thought stream and get the ball rolling.
