Derrick Sykes, LPC LGBT African American Male professional that is a part of multiple minority groups that has been through hell and back, ready to encounter others to find their healing. I have learned so much from my personal and professional experience that I am here to help you find the best version of yourself through your therapy journey. Let's get to work and welcome
My approach
CBT REBT person centered on asking them what Is your reasoning for coming to therapy and being their motivation for change because most of us are struggling with something, but we don't know why or have the tools to deal with the issues
My focus
Self-care and self-esteem issues LGBT Black People who are struggling with gender identity, sexual identity and anxiety depression, among other obstacles
My communication style
Stern but yet relatable and realistic, I love to help clients find their strengths and weaknesses while identifying patterns. I am their support while giving them tools to manage when not in session.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been a curious and inquisitive person. I remember wanting to be a therapist sitting in my psychology and sociology classes in high school, and from that moment I knew that I wanted to be a therapist. And I thrive from using my own experiences to help others in any way I can. Also, having support from my own therapist helps me as well.
My goals for you
Ask them about the goals they want to set. And after setting, make suggestions for things they don't see to work through for future goals
My first session with you
Getting to know each other makes them feel comfortable because, for some, this may be their first experience with therapy.
