My name is Chrys Dawkins and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based on the Big Island in Hawaii and working with clients both in Hawaii and Georgia. I work with adults and military veterans. My specialization lies in anxiety, stress management, women's issues, setting boundaries, and parenting.
My approach
My approach to therapy is tailored to the unique needs of each client but can be described as direct, caring, friendly, and warm. I most frequently use a strengths-based approach combined with a person-centered approach to help clients identify and harness their unrecognized strengths and join with clients to gain an understanding of their reality as we work together to build a way forward. The modalities that I use are Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
My focus
I find that my approach and style are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with feeling overwhelmed from carrying their burdens on their own, who may be feeling "stuck", and who want to become their best selves. I like to help guide clients in a non-directive way and assist in navigating these difficulties in life, finding strengths in those experiences, and improving their overall well-being.
My communication style
My communication style is informal, direct but warm, and free from judgment. My goal is to create a calming space where my clients feel free to talk to me about anything without the fear of judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a clinical social worker because I have always enjoyed helping people improve and become their best selves. I was impressed by the holistic approach that social workers have, and was always drawn to the connection that systems and environments have in impacting overall well-being.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients involves a collaborative and client-centered approach. This involves establishing a supportive and trusting relationship while identifying what therapy means for the client. We then assess needs, clarify values and priorities, and set specific goals. I find that this approach tends to help clients feel empowered and invested in their therapeutic journey.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will discuss your needs and how my therapeutic approach can support you. We will conduct a detailed assessment of your needs, set therapy goals, and develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual situation. You can expect this to be a time of building an initial connection and defining how we will work together.
