I am Wakisha Harvey, MBA, LPC, CPCS. I approach therapy from a client-centered approach with an important emphasis on the client's experience in the therapeutic space. I have been in practice for 15 years. My clinical focus is on the adolescent, adult, and couples populations. I also focus on Christian Counseling and Professional Career Counseling.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is mainly psychodynamic and psychoanalytic as the basis of my approach. I believe that the client-centered approach is very important to the therapeutic process experience to build rapport and a comfortable environment for clients. I also utilize other therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Couples Therapy, Family Systems, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, depending on the client's presenting symptoms and needs.
My focus
My client focus and experience have been with mainly African American Professional females and males. I also work with adolescents, young adults, and couples. I work with individuals and couples focusing on areas of Depression, Anxiety, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, Problem Solving Skills, Trauma, Anger Management, and Mood Disorders.
My communication style
My communication style is very open with welcoming of open and free-flowing conversation. The setting is comfortable with minimal anxiety and confrontation for the client to be comfortable discussing the intimate details of their lives.
My journey to mental healthcare
My passion for people has been and continues to be the driving force in my therapeutic work. I have worked with people in various settings for many years prior to obtaining my degree. I continued my career and goals by becoming a Certified Professional Clinical Supervisor because I believe in the importance and the ethics of the work that we are trusted to complete with clients as well as the importance to assist in training other clinicians that are on their growth and licensure path. I understand that all work with clients may not be immediate or rapid, but it gives me great joy to celebrate any change or growth for clients as a result of therapeutic work.
My goals for you
Goal setting is an important part of the therapeutic process. The client's goals are discussed at the onset of the initial sessions to determine the needs and desires of clients as they explore the therapeutic journey. Goal setting is also used to create measurable progress with the flexibility to adjust goals as the clinical presentation changes.
My first session with you
Clients should expect an open discussion focused on discussing what to expect in therapy, signs and symptoms leading to presenting issues, history of symptoms and treatment including negative experiences in past therapeutic experiences, the clients' needs and want in the establishment of therapy goals, medical assessment, and concerns of the client with the goal of completing a comprehensive behavioral health assessment and plan of care to move forward in treatment.
