Hi, I'm Imani, a licensed clinical social worker. My approach in therapy comes from a strengths-based and client-centered perspective, which means I believe in collaborating with you to identify your personal strengths and develop solutions that work best for your unique situation. My areas of focus in practice include substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and relationship issues.
My approach
Some common theoretical approaches used in therapy include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Each approach has its own unique focus and techniques, and I choose to use different approaches depending on the client's needs and goals. For example, CBT aims to help clients identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, while psychodynamic therapy focuses on exploring unconscious patterns and experiences from the past. Person-centered therapy emphasizes the client's autonomy and the importance of the therapeutic relationship, while solution-focused therapy focuses on helping clients to identify and work toward specific goals.
My focus
In general, I work with a wide range of clients, such as individuals, couples, families, and groups, across different age groups and backgrounds. I focus on treating a variety of conditions, such as substance use, mental health, mood disorders, and mental health symptoms.
My communication style
I work to create an atmosphere of safety, confidentiality, empathy, and respect, where clients can feel comfortable sharing their feelings and thoughts without judgment. I create an environment that is calm, peaceful, and welcoming. I will listen attentively and practice active-listening skills, summarize what the client is saying, and offer empathetic responses.
