Hello! I'm Dr. Shannon Gordon, a Georgia-licensed clinical social worker. I provide clients safe space to share openly and honestly to recover from challenges and learn new skills to live more effectively. My authentic, relatable approach is based on the latest healing research. I love to work with people from all ages and stages of life especially those who struggle with substance use or trauma histories. Recovery is real and possible for anyone!
My approach
I take a customer-guided, evidence-based approach to care. I use motivational interviewing as well as cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy approaches, internal family systems, inner child, somatic and energy-based approaches to pursue holistic healing - mind, emotions, body, spirit, and social network.
My focus
I am experienced and skilled in helping people recover from traumatic experiences, substance use, and mood disorders (anxiety and depression).
My communication style
Working with me is safe, warm, kind, and direct - and often fun! My focus is supporting you to guide your care and serving you to accomplish your goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
My life calling is to relieve suffering and make the world a better place. For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by human behavior, being a person to whom people look for a listening ear, and an advocate for populations that face unique challenges. To me, hearing people's stories is a sacred, humbling privilege. I'm so honored when folks trust me with their hearts!
My goals for you
"You will consider doing work in counseling a 100% success if what changes happen?"
My first session with you
Together, we review the confidentiality guardrails. Then we have a companionable conversation toward helping me understand how to serve you best as you work toward your goals. I seek to understand any factors you see as contributing to your current challenge as well as your personal strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences as you see them.
