My name is Sam Jones, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship issues, and men's issues, using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy to help my clients create change and start feeling better.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client focus on what is important to the client and provide a clear path to removing barriers to the life and relationships they desire.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and relationship issues. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, and stress. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and relationship issues and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop healthy relationship patterns with others.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, validating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because I enjoy helping people become the best versions of themselves. I have been privileged to work with people in a variety of helping roles and settings. I have worked as an assistant in a state library for the blind and disabled, a respiratory therapist, and a medical social worker. I grew up in a military family and was fortunate to be exposed to and learn from a variety of cultures. My experiences have fostered in me a deep appreciation of and respect for the diversity of the human experience.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to determine what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with my approach to therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about what you are experiencing that has brought you to see me, and me asking questions to better understand that experience. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there.
