Hello, my name is Michal Katz, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy is strength-based. I believe that each client is the expert on their life and has the innate ability to heal themselves. I am here to support and help the client re-discover their natural and inherited inner wisdom. The client is never the problem, it is the environment and the conditioned or unhealthy defense mechanism that we learned along the way. Through reflection, analysis, and hands-on application of therapy, I have helped many clients develop new coping skills, insights, and capacity to resolve life challenges. It would be a pleasure and honor to launch with you on this journey of self-healing and positive change!
My approach
I always tailor the therapy to each client's unique needs. I use evidence-based and empirical models that have been used and researched over time. The most common include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, and psychodynamic theories.
My focus
I have a very diverse and holistic background. I like to work with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, and other mental health concerns such as ADHD. Some clients may be struggling with external factors that are outside of their control (relational) and need some tools or coping skills to respond in a healthy manner.
My communication style
I like to make the client feel as comfortable as possible. I strive to create an emotionally safe place that is devoid of judgment. Attunement is key to building rapport and letting the client know that he/she is being seen and heard exactly as they are.
My journey to mental healthcare
Ever since I was a young child, I have been fascinated with the human mind and relational aspects. Becoming a clinical therapist was a dream come true and I am very grateful that I get to do something that I absolutely love and get excited about every single day! It is more than a career path. It is a life mission and purpose. I never feel 'off the clock', as mental health is such a big part of being alive. I am always on the lookout for new movies, articles, or books that can enhance a client's healing process.
My goals for you
Goal setting is key in treatment planning and will be addressed from the very first introductory session. It will be revisited throughout the sessions, during check-ins, and periodic review of the client's progress.
My first session with you
The first session will include a comprehensive evaluation to include biopsychosocial questions. It is imperative that I get clear, rich, and extensive picture' of the client and their environment.
