Hi, I’m Cornelia! I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker based in Florida. I use a client-centered approach. I work with adults aged 18 to 100. My specialties include working with individuals who experience anxiety, depression grief/loss, life transition/adjustment, mood disorders, and/or chronic/terminal illness. I have worked with those experiencing caregiver burnout and helped them learn new coping skills and how to manage them.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies with what the client may be experiencing, and which treatment module works best. I use the following approaches, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Reminiscence therapy, and Mindfulness-based therapy. Everyone has a strength, and together we will re-discover that strength to help you live an enriched and healthy lifestyle.
My focus
Whether you are dealing with a new life transition or looking to improve a new situation; together, we can develop positive ways to cope, gain insight into your true self, and re-discover your inner strength that serves to empower you.
My communication style
I create a judgment-free space for you to feel comfortable in addressing whatever obstacle you are facing. I am personable, empathetic, transparent, and objective. I set boundaries without losing sight of your value. My clients have told me that they feel listened to, validated, and understood.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a child, I always knew I wanted to help people. As a teenager, I would participate in doing charity work, such as visiting nursing homes and singing to the elderly. This made me realize that I can help bring some happiness into people’s lives. I decided to make this a reality by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in psychology from FIU and a master's in social work from Barry University.
My goals for you
Once the goal is set, we will work together to create objectives to reach the ultimate goal. This is done by developing a therapeutic relationship based on transparency and trust.
My first session with you
The first session is about getting to know you and your reason for seeking therapy. I will ask you questions about different areas of your life and together we will devise a plan for how you can achieve your goal in therapy. It is an opportunity to start building rapport. You can expect me to be transparent and also any questions regarding my professional experience as well as what to expect out of therapy.
