Hello, I am Yoany Lopez-Hernandez, LMHC. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who is passionate about life. I am here to support my clients through rough times and overcome trauma related issues focusing in healing and building self-love and self-confidence.
My approach
My main approach is "Trauma-Focus" and I've been working for many years with people that have been victims of different types of traumatic events. I want my clients to say, "I healing myself on all levels." I also love to use "Mindfulness" during the therapy sessions because when we focus in the present moment, it creates new experiences that can empower us and encourage us to move forward.
My focus
I've been working with people that experienced trauma (ex. Sexual, Physical and/or psychological abuse during childhood, placed in foster homes, homeless, not feeling heard or validated, divorce, grieving, etc.). I've been focusing on identifying symptoms and helping them to deal with trauma related issues, while learning and practicing healthy and adaptive coping skills.
My communication style
I provide a safe environment, non-judgmental and open-minded. I like to use the therapeutic sessions for the clients to open-up and be able to talk about uncomfortable things that they are experiencing and can affect the functionality of some areas of their life. It is very safe the therapy sessions since it is a private and confidential setting. I’m bilingual, my primary language is Spanish. I’m willing to provide therapy in both languages.
My journey to mental healthcare
Working in a shelter for 5 years as a Case Manager and having the vocation to help them more at a personal level to deal with trauma and mental health issues.
My goals for you
I use Person Centered Approach and provide Active Listening to identify what is really important for them to be working on, and what goals and objectives they want to achieve.
My first session with you
Rapport building and ice-breakers to know each other and feel comfortable. At the end of session, for the client to say, I found a safe place where I can talk about my personal life and I will learn how to deal with my situation and improve my overall lifestyle."
