I'm Whitney Johnson, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Florida. I see clients statewide through telehealth. I work with adults who struggle with self-doubt, insecurities, anxiety, and/or depression. Using a holistic approach, integrating mind-body techniques and methods such as cognitive behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, and somatic therapy I help my clients shift from a state of constant worry and self-doubt to one of confidence and resilience.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-centered, integrating mind-body techniques, and staying updated with the latest therapeutic interventions, I help clients achieve a sense of peace and control in your life. While working with me, you will be guided to understand your triggers and patterns, gain insight into your responses, and will learn to manage them effectively. We will work collaboratively to develop coping strategies, to help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and grief. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist happened by accident. I went to my academic advisor one day, while in college and shared with her what I believed I wanted to do with my life. After sharing my story and my goals, my academic advisor recommended that I enroll in the social work program, at the University of Central Florida. I followed her advice and it turns out it was the perfect fit!
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative. We will work together to help determine what goals will work best for you. This often starts by building trust between us, and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. I will also open the floor for you to ask me any questions you may have about me, my therapeutic approach, and the therapy process. The first session is about us building an initial connection so that we both can get a sense of where we should go to help you get the best results from therapy. Each individual is different, and it's important for me to listen first so that I can get a better understanding of you and what you would like to gain from therapy.
