Hello! My name is Heather Wilkie. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida (MH20343). I have over 8 years of experience helping clients with LGBTQ+-related issues and relationship issues. Additionally, I have over a decade of experience working in queer spaces of all ages. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you on that journey.
My approach
I will customize our communication and treatment plan to address your individual and specific needs. My primary theoretical approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which emphasizes addressing present difficulties with practical solutions. I also incorporate aspects of Humanistic and Positive Psychology, both of which are centered on the client and emphasize the distinct experiences and viewpoints of each person.
My focus
My clients come from various backgrounds and experiences, and I approach all clients with equal compassion and respect. I have more than a decade of experience working in queer spaces with individuals of all ages.
My communication style
Empathy and compassion are fundamental in my approach to each client. Although my communication style is gentle, it is also direct. My primary objective is to foster an environment of acceptance and understanding for all clients.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to develop them collaboratively with the client. We will review the goals in each session and ensure that attainable action steps are in place to help each client succeed.
My first session with you
During our first session, I will start by getting to know you. I will ask about your history and the reasons for seeking therapy. In the initial session, I aim to learn more about you and establish some initial goals that will help guide you in your healing journey.
