Hi, I am so glad you have decided to take a step in healing from your past. I am Carrie Glebe a licensed mental health counselor in the State of Florida. I have a virtual practice and work with adult clients from all over the state. I specialize in working with people who grew up in families where there was some type of instability or turmoil. This could have been from addiction, mental health, abuse, neglect, anger, poverty, foster care placement, religious trauma, or anything that caused some form of trauma.
My approach
I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, and allow us to work together. I believe in the human potential to grow and change. We are amazing creatures and can overcome severe adversity.
My focus
Adult clients often come to me struggling with some form of addiction, self-sabotage, self-harm, shame/guilt, co-dependency, depression, anxiety, dissociative disorders, or emotional regulation problems as a result of instability during their childhood. In addition to working with those who have experienced childhood trauma, I also specialize in working with adults involved in non-traditional relationships such as kink/BDSM, polyamory, & open relationships. I work with many clients dealing with issues of sexual or gender identity or those belonging to the LGBTQ+ population who want an open-minded nonconservative therapist.
My communication style
My goal is to create a safe space for you to express yourself fully without judgment. I have been told by many clients that my approach is soothing and I am easy to talk with about their concerns.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always wanted to understand human behavior. I started reading Freud and Jung at around age 14. People seemed drawn to me to talk about their struggles. I embarked on my own journey of healing and know from personal experience how helpful an understanding therapist can be. Becoming a therapist just felt natural to me and I have been doing this work for over 25 years.
My goals for you
I like to use this analogy: Therapy is like using a GPS when driving. You are in the driver's seat so to speak and I am like the GPS. I will offer suggestions on which route appears the best to get you to your destination but you are free to choose another route, make a detour, or change the final destination. I just ask that you communicate this to me so we are both working on the same plan.
My first session with you
Our first session is chance for you to express anything that is concerning you. It is the start of our roadmap to working together. I will be gathering information about your current situation as well historical information.
