My name is April Smith. I am a licensed mental health counselor. My approach to therapy consists of providing clients with coping skills and strategies that they can use for addressing problems in their lives. My areas of practice are anxiety, OCD, depression, and anger management issues.
My approach
The most common theoretical approaches I use in therapy are CBT, DBT, REBT, Seeking Safety, and Solution-focused therapy.
My focus
The types of clients I typically work with are clients who are interested in making changes to how they are doing things in their lives and they are looking for guidance as to how they can go about making those changes.
My communication style
I tend to be directive as a therapist. Clients who work with me will feel listened to but also walk away with more knowledge than they had before and will have a better sense of what they can do to address their problems and make things better for them.
My journey to mental healthcare
At the first session, clients should expect to explain what brings them to therapy, and what they are hoping to achieve, and to come away from the session with some knowledge of coping skills or strategies that they can use right away.
My goals for you
I became a therapist because I like to help people with their problems. I like to help others based on my personal and professional experience.
My first session with you
I approach goal setting with clients by finding out what they want to achieve and how they would like to benefit from therapy.
