My name is Melissa Barreto and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I have been providing counseling for 4 years and have been working in the mental health field in some way for around 6 years. I have experience with childhood trauma, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Adjustment Disorder, Adoption, and working with the child welfare system.
My approach
The theoretical approach that I most use is CBT with some Gestalt. I am also EMDR certified and use that technique as well.
My focus
I have worked with all kinds of clients. The ones I have the most experience in are Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Adoption, Childhood Trauma, PTSD, and adjustment disorder.
My communication style
My communication style is empathetic and collaborative. I prioritize active listening to fully understand your perspective, and I provide thoughtful, non-judgmental feedback. My goal is to create a supportive environment where open, honest dialogue fosters growth and healing.
My journey to mental healthcare
My friends and family have always come to me when they want someone to listen to their concerns or help them find solutions to their problems. I enjoy knowing that I can use my empathy and compassion to offer them support in challenging times. I believe I have many valuable skills that can help me succeed as a mental health counselor, and I'm excited about pursuing this profession so I can help others with their mental health issues.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting and a collaboration between my client and myself. We work together to set appropriate and attainable goals.
My first session with you
During our first session together we will get to know each other. I will take the time to get to know what the client wants to get out of therapy and what brought them to take the step to therapy.
