My name is Steven R. Brashear, LMHC. I am licensed in Florida with 5 years of professional work experience. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.
My approach
I provide an eclectic approach to therapy, whereas I draw from multiple disciplines and techniques to create a combination of treatments that are most effective for a patient's problem. I carefully assess the patient's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and motivations, and try to understand their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships.
My focus
I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, coping with grief and loss, & anger management.
My communication style
The environment I create for my sessions is calm, welcoming, comfortable, and safe, and can help clients feel relaxed and ready to engage.
My journey to mental healthcare
In my career journey, I have experience as a caseworker, substance abuse counselor, teacher, and now as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. The factor that attracted me to my career as a therapist involves having an innate ability to guide others in discovering their path in life along with helping others to gain clarity and an even fulfilling sense of oneself.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with my clients is a collaborative one. In other words, I would discuss with them the reasons they came to therapy and guide them towards setting goals to treat "said" conditions they are struggling with.
My first session with you
When entering the first session with me, I would begin by asking questions about their lives, their background, and what brought them to therapy. Also, I would assess the goals they wish to accomplish while in therapy.
