Hello! My name is Dorothy Milana and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Florida. I approach all of my clients from a stance of strength and empowerment and strive for my clients to feel hopeful from session one. I work with individuals and couples with a primary focus on grief, anxiety, depression, self-confidence, and relationship struggles.
My approach
I recognize you, the client, are the expert of your experience and will treat you as such. I use a collaborative approach with my clients as we will work together to bring you to a place where you feel healthier and more confident in yourself and your emotions. I use a mixture of approaches but lean heavily on Emotionally Focused Therapy with a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy thrown in as well. I will also provide Christian-based therapy for my Christian clients.
My focus
I find extremely high success rates with clients who are internally motivated to face their truths and get uncomfortable. Those clients who aren't afraid of acknowledging their weak spots and facing head on their challenges do the best when working with me. I always aim to get to the deep root cause of any issue you might be facing so my clients can expect to go deeper than simple symptom management. I want for my clients to have long-term, lasting success with our work together.
My communication style
I am a highly empathetic provider. My clients always express feeling warmly welcomed and accepted by me. My clients will tell you I do not judge and ask the hard questions with compassion and kindness while also filled with genuine curiosity. You will find in our sessions, an environment filled with hope and positivity.
My journey to mental healthcare
Being a therapist has always been a natural work for me. I was always the listener. I was always the sound-minded friend that others would go to for tough truths and gentle advice whether or not they liked it. I've always help people in my life feel fully loved and seen. I see this as God's work and I aim to glorify him through the work I do with my clients on a daily basis.
My goals for you
We will work collaboratively together to set goals while also understanding that as we work together, new goals may arise or goals we thought were priority, no longer are as we have something else that needs to be dealt with first.
My first session with you
I always call the first session an "information download". You can expect I will ask you a lot of questions and give you lots of time to share your story. In the first session, my aim is for you to feel seen and heard and to leave the session with a sense of hope for the work we will do together.
