My name is Sally Hernandez and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). For me, therapy is about empowering my clients to become the healthiest version of themselves. I work with adult clients (18+) and have treated a wide range of substance abuse and mental health disorders within the inpatient and outpatient settings.
My approach
Within my therapeutic approach, I utilize trauma-informed approaches and strength-based therapy to assist with progress toward treatment goals and reduce ambivalence towards the change process. I employ approaches including Supportive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing techniques, CBT and DBT concepts, as well as evidence-based breathing/grounding exercises to assist with overall symptom management and emotional regulation.
My focus
I have years of experience within the inpatient treatment setting as a Primary Therapist to clients struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. I have additional experience as a Clinical Supervisor within the inpatient treatment setting, as well as serving the US Veteran Population as an Outpatient Therapist. I have been in private practice since 2023.
My communication style
I believe my greatest strength as a therapist is my ability to empathize with my clients. I strive to create relationships with my clients that are collaborative and I respect my client's right to autonomy within their own therapeutic process. As a therapist, I am generally pretty casual in my approach and work to create a friendly, safe environment for my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
My commitment to the well-being and mental health of others began growing as a result of experiencing the impact of my personal traumas and mental health disorders. My passion is providing empathy, support, and evidence-based care to individuals who may not have the support system I was fortunate to have during the most challenging period of my life.
My goals for you
I approach setting goals with my clients by listening to their individual needs/wants and guiding them in breaking down the broader goals into small, attainable objectives. This allows the process to be less overwhelming and promotes increased confidence in your own abilities.
My first session with you
During our initial session, I will gather more detailed background information from you, we will explore your current situation together, and we'll get to know each other. This will allow us to build therapeutic rapport and set specific goals/objectives for future sessions.
