My approach
Heather has an eclectic approach however finds Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to be an extremely effective modality in dealing with a wide variety of symptoms and diagnoses. CBT helps clients identify thought patterns that lead to behaviors. By identifying the thoughts and changing the way we think we can learn to have a different, more positive outlook, and as a result, our behaviors become healthier as well.
My focus
For over 25 years I have worked with adults and seniors who have dealt with depression, anxiety, grief & loss, fertility issues, relationship issues, family relationship concerns, and trauma. Heather works with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
My communication style
I provide a safe and comfortable environment for my clients. I offer compassion and nonjudgmental approach with my clients and have the ability to connect very easily from early on in the therapy process.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a young girl, I was inspired by my Uncle who was a social worker and worked as a principal of a school for young adults with special needs. I would often go to work with him and learn the value of being a service to others. I have always been passionate about being a support and helping others through difficult times. I feel fortunate to be able to love what I do and after 25 years I continue to wake up and look forward to working with my clients.
My goals for you
It's important to identify as a team what the goals for therapy are. We set goals initially when we begin and reevaluate along the way and set new goals as necessary.
My first session with you
The initial session is a time to gather information and start bonding as therapist and client. It is a time to start feeling comfortable in a safe environment and decide what it is from therapy you would like to gain. But have no worries I am here to help guide you every step of the way.
