Hi there! I’m Dorian Yates, a licensed clinical social worker with 10 years of experience. My approach to therapy is integrative and client-centered, blending different techniques to fit your unique needs. As for my focus areas of practice, I'm especially well-versed in life transitions and adjustments, burnout, mood disorders. I happen to have special expertise in the areas of anxiety and ADHD, expertise I developed through my own experience!
My approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative and holistic, meaning I tailor my techniques to fit the unique needs of each client. I draw from various approaches, including person-in-environment, biopsychosocial, systems, narrative, and interpersonal frameworks. By blending these, I focus on understanding the full context of a client’s life—emotionally, mentally, socially, and physically.
My focus
My client focus is not particularly narrow and throughout my career -particularly in medical settings- I feel as if there isn't a population I haven't worked with, as the need for medical care doesn't discriminate, and I consider myself very adaptable.
My communication style
My communication style is more on the casual side, unstructured, and never lacks (well-timed and appropriate) humor and pop culture references. You'll find that I'm quite authentic, for example, if I don't know the answer to something, you won't find me in any rush to try and bluff (and if I tried, I'd definitely fail!). Sessions with me feel comfortable and conversational, like chatting with a friend who happens to have some tools to help. I try to create an environment where you can be yourself without feeling judged. We’ll laugh when it’s needed and get serious when it’s time, but you’ll always feel heard, respected, and supported.
My goals for you
I like to keep things flexible so that as we progress, we can adjust our goals based on what you’re experiencing. It's about finding what resonates with you and setting goals that feel realistic and motivating. Plus, we’ll celebrate your wins—big or small—along the way to keep that momentum going! My favorite clouds have always been silver-lined!
My first session with you
During our first session, we'll do some short introductions. Any information you provided prior to our session I'll have reviewed, but that doesn't mean you're limited to what you want the session to be! My approach is client-centered and client-paced, so in our sessions -be it our first or our 50th- you set the tone or alternatively you can tell me to set the tone or take the lead.
