Hi There, I am Karen Romero, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. With over 7 years of experience, I have worked with individuals helping them through stress management, increasing self-worth, inner child work and breaking negative generational cycles, mind/body connection, trauma processing, assertiveness training, mood management, anxiety and depression reduction, empowerment and work-life balance.
My approach
I believe in a collaborative approach, where empathy and human connection are key while focusing on meeting goals. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, working to improve cognitive perceptions leading to positive behavioral changes. However, I tailor my therapeutic techniques to fit your individual needs, ensuring the sessions are relevant and effective for you. I aim to provide a supportive and empathic environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to make progress.
My focus
The clients I tend to work with are adults seeking a safe space to feel validated, and struggling with managing life stressors, life transitions, emotional difficulties, and social pressures. They are looking to do the work that it takes to overcome presenting difficulties and start the process of healing. I am aware of the fears of therapy, and together we can work on overcoming these.
My communication style
My sessions are designed to be a safe, judgement-free space where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism. While maintaining a high level of professionalism, I bring a genuine, human touch to our sessions where I engage actively with your concerns, offering thoughtful responses and connecting with you on a personal level. My goal is to create a dynamic and interactive therapeutic experience where you feel truly heard and understood.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey into becoming a therapist was deeply influenced by my own experiences with difficult situations in childhood that led to me relying on resilience to push through. These experiences inspired me throughout adulthood to help others and led me to recognize the importance of empathy, resilience, and accepting support. I strongly believe sometimes it takes that one person you meet to no longer feel alone, judged, or lost and help us open our eyes to the other side of what seems dark. Being that one person, or helping my clients find their way outside of the dark and cloudy, is my drive to do this work.
My goals for you
When approaching goal setting with my clients in therapy, the most essential part is being collaborative, clear, and flexible. I engage in discussions with my clients to understand their values, priorities, and specific needs so their goals are personally meaningful and relevant. I help clients understand the importance of dividing goals into smaller manageable milestones to make progress more attainable and less overwhelming. Together, we will regularly review progress toward goals and adjust them as needed based on evolving needs. Most importantly, we will celebrate progress no matter how small to maintain motivation and build confidence.
My first session with you
I strive to create a welcoming environment where you feel at ease from the moment you enter. From our first session, you can expect to be welcomed into a comfortable and supportive environment. My primary focus will be on getting to know you, where the majority of our time will be spent talking about how you have been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand a little of why you may be feeling that way. The goal of the first session is to feel a “click” between us two.
