My name is Daniel Clare. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Land O' Lakes, FL., and working with clients statewide through telehealth. I work with adults, kids ages 5-12, teens 13-18, and parents using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Somatic Awareness through a Polyvagal lense as modalities to help clients build the skills they need to make progress and feel better in an increasingly more complex world.
My approach
My approach to therapy can change to meet the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Polyvagal approaches as modalities to help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for kids, teens, young adults, older adults, and parents who may be dealing with the challenges life can bring. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, anger outbursts, frustration towards self, others, and the world at large. I work to help my clients navigate these challenges and build skills to feel better and develop a more positive outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, personable, and at times humorous to help relieve the tension coming from the complex things my clients face. Talking with someone for the first time can always feel stressful; especially when it is something like therapy. I pride myself in my ability to help my clients feel relaxed and comfortable without fear of judgment, so we can get to work on what they actually need.
My journey to mental healthcare
This is a bit personal, but I come from a family of really complicated trauma. It was hard coming from that but it inspired a drive and desire to help others find a way through hard moments in life. I studied social work after having a fire lit by sociology during my collegiate experience. I then continued with my journey in completing a Master's program for Social Work and a two year process to earn my license as a licensed clinical social worker for the state of Florida.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us, and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress. Feeling safe to work on this can feel like a vulnerable process so it is always my personal goal to help you get to that place first before we start on your overall needs.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
