Hi. My name is Mamie Lumpkin-Gordon and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am licensed in Florida with 8 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress, depression, anxiety, family conflicts, trauma, abuse, grief & parenting issues. I am dedicated to creating an open and safe environment for clients, where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. My passion is to help clients overcome their mental health and/or personal barriers and promote feelings of empowerment to ultimately achieve desired change.
My approach
Collaborative, Integrated, Structured and Psychodynamic
My focus
I work with teens and young adults who are struggling with family, peer relations, romantic relationships, identity issues, and other developmental stressors. I also support young adults who are trying to establish themselves and find their place in the world. I enjoy working with mothers who may be struggling with finding a balance between being a parent, a partner and having a career without losing their sense of self. I have great success in working with clients of all ages who have experienced trauma and need guidance toward healing and restoring functionality. I am seasoned in working with clients who are battling anxiety and depression, as well as those who are experiencing grief and other significant life changes.
My communication style
My approach is direct yet gentle. In sessions, clients will see a therapist who is strength-based and who encourages clients to accept their past and present self without shame and guilt. Strengths are highlighted and all feelings are important and acknowledged.
My journey to mental healthcare
My desire has always been to be in the health field, however not in a hands-on capacity. While in college, my grandmother suffered a life-changing medical procedure that was devastating for her and the family as a whole. The Social Worker assigned to my grandmother was amazing and a huge support to the family. Her commitment and ability to help others and us specifically to adjust to a traumatic event had a lasting impression on me. I am driven to also help individuals and families and change the lives of people who are in need of support through life's many ups and downs.
My goals for you
In our first sessions together, the goal will be to establish a positive rapport with the client. Through rapport building, I will learn what the specific challenges are. My ultimate goal is to treat symptoms, however, along the way I prioritize establishing and fostering a positive/professional therapeutic relationship and collaboration that will help with establishing personalized goals for each client. I strive to create a safe space for clients to agree or disagree with treatment goals and to be vocal about how the goals would better reflect their needs.
My first session with you
The client can expect a formal introduction and a combination of close-ended and open-ended questions, such as what brought them to today's session, had they previously received therapy and what are there expectations pertaining to therapy. Therapist will gain as much background information as possible in order to best determine what the client's needs are.
