Martrice Kennedy, DSocSci, LCSW. I am a rostered Child Parent Psychotherapy provider. All ages are welcome to my practice.
My approach
Sessions are more of a conversation, you talk and I listen. I use a variety of approaches to assist you in reaching your desired outcomes. Most commonly used are Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Narrative therapy.
My focus
Over the years I provided care to families processing a traumatic event, domestic violence, men who have trauma history, sexual abuse survivors, African American teenage boys who are navigating the challenges of life, faith-based and substance abuse.
My communication style
The environment in sessions are important in the rapport building process. I've been told I have a very serious look on my face during sessions. Honestly, I am very focused on what is shared in the session and don't want to interrupt your sharing. There is no space for my opinion in your sessions. Consistency is also important.
My journey to mental healthcare
Sitting by and watching issues occur have always made me uncomfortable. I started out as an advocate even before knowing there was a term for it. Fair treatment for all is my thought process. I am passionate about social services.
My goals for you
Together we collaborate on your goals. It's your care. Treatment plans involve identifying your strengths, resources and road blocks. We take larger goals and work on them by creating smaller steps to achieve your goal(s).
My first session with you
Your first session would involve us exploring your purpose for seeking therapy, past experiences and what you are hoping for to stay connected. We would discuss availability, creating a safe space and any items that need to be completed.
