My name is Richard Saxton, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 30 years of experience. Therapy is a journey of discovery. Each Person has innate skills and abilities which can be discovered and sharpened. I will teach you how to use those skills, while building additional strategies, and techniques to address your therapeutic needs.
My approach
Each client is unique. I use person centered therapy based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness to develop skills and strategies that will meet each person’s needs.
My focus
I typically work with a wide range of clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. My areas of focus include: Anxiety; anger management; depression; marriage; military issues; relationships; stress, and trauma.
My communication style
A safe environment where clients can openly say what's on their mind without any judgement. An atmosphere where clients will be treated with the utmost respect and encouraged to pursue their therapeutic needs.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been able to easily relate to others. People would come up to me and feel comfortable telling me the personal issues or problems that they were experiencing. Often, people were told by others that I could help them with the struggles that they were facing. I found helping others very rewarding and fulfilling. I became a therapist to help people develop skills, resilience, and understanding.
My goals for you
The reason(s) why the client is seeking therapy, and what does the client hope to gain from therapy are explored. Goals that can be used to reach client’s needs are identified, and a treatment plan is developed.
My first session with you
During the first session the reason(s) why the client is seeking therapy, and what does the client hope to gain from therapy will be explored. The symptoms that the client is experiencing are identified leading to a diagnosis. A treatment plan which will include an estimated timeline for completion of treatment goals will be developed. Future follow-up appointments will be scheduled.
