Hi! My name is Katie Magalnick, LCSW I have been practicing for 6 years in the State of Connecticut. I currently work with young adults and I specialize in anxiety, stress, and depression, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my clients make progress and work towards becoming the best version of themselves.
My approach
I would say my approach varies per client, as all clients have different needs in therapy. However, I tend to use a direct approach which allows my clients to reflect on issues they are facing head on. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we will explore your thinking/approach to problems which allow for tools for resolution.
My focus
As mentioned before, I currently work with young adults and I have found that this population is most rewarding for me as the young adult population are transitioning into different avenues of life and with that, comes with stress, anxiety, and depression. I enjoy helping individuals navigate through difficult times in their life.
My communication style
My overall communication style is direct, however laid back in the sense where I open to all feedback, and will provide you with the same. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
When I was in college it took me a long time to determine what I wanted to do! I always knew I wanted to help people, but I was unsure of what avenue or way I was going to do that. I took my first social work class when I was about 18-19 years old and something just 'clicked' I knew I was supposed to be there. This field can be taxing at times, however what drives me to continue is the connections I make with my clients. The stories they tell, the laughs they bring me, and the progress I get to be apart of.
My goals for you
Therapy is about YOU! We will determine goals based off what you want to improve on in your life.
My first session with you
The purpose of our first session is to build a connection, it is important for you to feel comfortable and want to come back for a second session. In doing so, I will spend time asking you questions about how you have been feeling lately, what you would like to get out of therapy, and general questions to get to know you better.
