My name is Shannon Bazelais and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of CT. I have clinical experience treating adults and couples suffering from addiction, domestic violence, eating disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, and psycho-social challenges. I approach therapy from a strengths-based perspective, incorporating treatment modalities such as Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman Principles, and motivational interviewing.
My approach
My approach to providing therapy is rooted in empathy, active listening, and meeting clients where they are, and not where I want them to be. I approach therapy from a strengths-based perspective, incorporating treatment modalities such as Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman principles, and motivational interviewing
My focus
I typically work with couples and adults ages 25 or older. I am comfortable treating addiction, domestic violence, eating disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties and other psycho-social challenges.
My communication style
I create a gentle and inclusive environment during each session. The tone I create for my sessions is warm, enthusiastic, and inviting.
My journey to mental healthcare
What attracted me to a career as a therapist was wanting to learn more about what gives life meaning for others. What drives me to do this work is having an opportunity to be on the journey with clients, to help them better navigate and understand who they were, who they are, and what they're hoping to be in life despite life's negative challenges.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients by allowing them to share with me what goals they feel are measurable and attainable.
My first session with you
During the first session, clients should expect a soft warm introduction of us building rapport, identifying what their past theraputic journey consisted of, and what their expectations are for this new therapeutic journey.
