My name is Amy Kelly, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in New Haven County, CT and working with client statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and adjustment disorder, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution Focused Therapy to help my client's work toward feeling better.
My approach
My approach varies based on the need of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Solution Focused Therapy to assist the me with understanding the client's current needs and emotional distress, and allow us to create a plan forward.
My focus
I typically work with young adults and older adults who may be dealing with life changes, loss, or overall life challenges. This often takes form in anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, and grief. I work with my clients to understand and process how they are feeling and teach them to build skills to develop a better sense of self and healthier outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is relaxed, patient, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking to me about anything, and I understand that level of trust takes time.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because I always wanted to help people. I was raised by a parent in a helping profession and was taught the importance of compassion and service to others. I am privileged to have people trust me with their truth and their pain and to help them realize how capable they are.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is about working together to discover what you want to work on and creating a plan to help you achieve your goals. Over time, we will work together to assess your goals and change them as you grow.
My first session with you
Our first session together is typically spent talking about how you have been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand why you may be feeling that way. There is never any pressure to discuss things you aren't ready to. This first session is the first step to building a connection and allows me to listen and get a better sense of where we should go from there.
