Hello, my name is Crystal Hayes and I have a Masters in Clinical Psychology and am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 9 years of experience as a mental health clinician. I have extensive training in trauma and attachment, particularly childhood abuse and relationship struggles. Throughout the years, I have worked with clients aged 4-85 in residential, partial hospitalization, community/in-home, outpatient, and recovery settings.
My approach
To me, therapy is about creating a comfortable environment and a meaningful connection to my clients so that they feel supported and safe while working through challenges and sharing vulnerable parts of themselves. My therapeutic approach is often eclectic as I feel it is important to tailor the interventions and strategies I use to each person I work with and their unique needs. I tend to use a combination of skills and influences from: CBT, DBT, Trauma-informed Attachment theories, Narrative therapy, mindfulness, and spiritual (energetic and shamanic) modalities to promote healing of the mind, body, and spirit.
My focus
Typically, I work with adults of all genders on strengthening relationships, building communication skills, and improving self love and self-esteem that has been affected by trauma and resulted in symptoms of depression, anxiety, codependency, and/or self-sabotaging behaviors. I enjoy using a variety of methods to process and reframe, including creative and artistic projects based on my client's strengths and areas of interest.
My communication style
When working with clients, I find it best to be authentic and genuine. I like to describe my style as direct yet nurturing, utilizing humor and playfulness to soften the feedback I provide while still holding you accountable.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been intrigued by individual differences in people and how they shape us to be who we are. Through my own growth and development, I have learned the importance of accepting and loving those parts of yourself that make you who you are and hope to be able to support others in falling in love with themselves and embracing their authenticity.
My goals for you
When it comes to goal setting, my policy is always honesty; I believe we are working as a team and need to be on the same page to make progress and encourage success. I like to identify goals at the start of treatment and periodically check in with my clients to assess progress and identify any areas or needs for continued growth.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will review your history of symptoms and challenges and identify important goals to focus on in treatment. *Please note that although I work with trauma, I do not ask for nor expect a full description of any trauma in the first session as I understand the need to get to know one another first.
