My name is Breanna Alderson, and I am a Licensed clinical social worker in the state of Colorado. My approach to therapy is client centered as I view you as the expert of your life. I do my best to make it feel like you are talking to another human being as I believe in brining my authentic self to the therapeutic relationship. My hope is that this will encourage you to be your true self as well!
My approach
My approach to providing therapy is to start off at a pace that is most comfortable for you as we get to know each other. I take my time to get to know you as a person and to learn about some of the challenges you are experiencing. I enjoy using a holistic approach to therapy as well as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectal behavioral therapy, mindfulness, solution focused, goal setting, narrative therapy, cognitive processing therapy, written exposure therapy, and interpersonal therapy.
My focus
I have experience working with those between the ages of 18-40 and those who have served in the military. My areas of expertise include anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, trauma, life transitions, body image, grief, and those who just have a lot on their plate and need some guidance figuring things out! I am truly passionate about helping those that are motivated to make changes.
My communication style
I understand how intimidating therapy so creating a relationship with my clients is the most important thing. I truly believe in learning about my clients and asking them what would make them feel the most comfortable. I consider myself to be a laid-back therapist sprinkled in with some directness. I always work as hard as my cleints and my effort will match yours.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my career as a therapist after serving six years in the Air Force and seeing how awful the negative stigma was around mental health treatment. I also witnessed so many people try to get help but then change their mind in fear of looking weak or feeling like the will not be heard. That is my “why” for doing this work. I know there are so many people out there that are just going through the motions of life, feeling numb, don’t feel heard or validated, or maybe you just feel like you are always wanting for the other shoe to drop? Being able to watch those overcome challenges and to turn those awful moments into something great is what motivates me. There is beauty in all this suffering.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting by understanding what is most important to you. As a partnership we will work together creating the life you want to live. I am confident that through our time together you can overcome obstacles as we break down problems into more manageable pieces.
My first session with you
During our first session I will take the time to get to know you and get a better idea on how your current stressors are impacting your well-being. My goal is to also understand what works best for you and what does not work. I am always curious to know what kind of therapist you are looking for and what your expectations are of me! Like I say therapy is a relationship so I must do my part as well.
