My name is Gianna Orr and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Denver, Colorado and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with teens and young adults and specialize in trauma, anger, anxiety, depression, and stress, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help my clients learn skills and techniques to support more positive mental health.
My approach
I tailor my approach to each client individually in order to provide support specific to their needs. A psychodynamic lens is my go to style as I feel it's necessary to get to the root of the issues in order to develop the most effective skills. I use aspects of mindfulness, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy to build a strong therapeutic alliance with clients. This allows clients a safe space to talk about the difficult topics.
My focus
I have a passion for working with teens and young adults struggling with anything from daily pressures of teenage life to intense trauma and suicidal ideation. I provide a space for teens and young adults to feel safe sharing their thoughts and feelings and feel heard. I have experience working with a variety of issues and diagnoses and enjoy helping clients find the skills that work best for them to increase their happiness in life.
My communication style
My communication style is open and honest. I take the time to listen actively and provide a safe space for my clients to talk about anything. There is no room for judgment here, only support.
My journey to mental healthcare
Even as a teenager, children would talk to me about all the things they never shared with anyone else. I always wanted to be a safe space for others tome themselves and learn about the world around them. I learned quickly that unlike others, I became calm when things began to get overwhelming or in crisis for others. I enjoy teaching other how to calm their bodies and minds when things seem out of control.
My goals for you
When setting goals, I defer to my client's as the experts. I trust my clients to identify the goals they have. Together we make goals that are specific to them and personal. I approach goal setting as a process that can be changed and altered as needed.
My first session with you
First sessions with me are usually low key and focus on slowly developing a strong relationship in which you feel heard and comfortable. Together we will identify what areas are most important for you and how you would like the flow of sessions to continue going forward.
