Hello. My name is Tim Wheeler, LPC, and I am a Clinical Therapist living near Aspen, Colorado. I provide Individual Psychotherapy, Family and Couples Therapy.
My approach
I use an eclectic approach to therapy, utilizing many different modalities depending on the need of the client. My approach includes but not limited to: CBT, Trauma Focused-CBT, Experiential, Psychodynamic, Brief Solution-Focused, Narrative, Gestalt, and Reframing. In Couples therapy I utilize Gottman's approach.
My focus
I have enjoyed working with ages 4-94 years old. I work with all kinds of diagnoses with no demographic being outside my scope of practice. I often work with children, teens, adults and families who have experienced trauma. I enjoy advocating for a treating clients who are struggling with gender identity or LGBTQ+ issues. I work with people who are experiencing high levels of anger, anxiety, and depression. I love working with Couples in therapy after they are married or in pre-marital couples sessions. I work with Children, Teens, and Adults who struggle with Substance Use Disorder. I have worked with Children and Teens who aren't Neuro-typical, including Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, Developmental Delays. I enjoy having a very Diverse clientele.
My communication style
I try to make therapy as casual as possible, with a lot of honesty from the heart. I think the therapeutic relationship is extremely important to the therapy process.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was an Executive Chef to Fine Dining establishments for almost 20 years. I really enjoyed helping my staff with their real life problems, like SUD and Couples issues. I was in a horrific car accident and wasn't going to be able to be on my feet the rest of my career so I decided to go back to school to be a counselor. I enjoyed helping the staff more than I enjoyed cooking the food.
My goals for you
I like to develop the treatment plans with the clients so that the goals are coming directly from my clients.
My first session with you
They should expect therapy to start with rapport building conversations surrounding what is bringing them into therapy and what are some of their goals while in therapy.
