My name is Karen Perry, M.A., L.M.F.T. 43178, and I believe in a person's ability to grow. As a clinician, the experience of guiding another in the process of growth is invigorating and fueled my passion for over 40 years in the helping professions.
My approach
I am able to help you discover your self-defeating patterns and use your strengths to develop new strategies and behaviors using a blend of techniques from Rational Emotive Behavioral, Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative, Solution Focused, Acceptance Commitment, Trauma Resiliency Method, Somatic Experiencing, Person-Centered, Motivational, Ego State, and Structural Family therapies.
My focus
I am experienced working with Individuals from youth to the elderly, Couples, and Families addressing a range of issues that prevent one's success including childhood trauma, relationship problems, the impact of substance abuse or domestic violence, and military life stressors. I am comfortable treating mental health disorders of anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive, post-traumatic stress disorder, bulimia, substance abuse recovery and behavioral addictions, depression, and other mood disorders.
My communication style
Safety and rapport in the therapeutic relationship are the foundation for success. I join with clients with genuineness, honesty, and support fostering a team approach.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey of struggling during a difficult childhood with influences from positive mentors gave me the desire to understand human behavior along with early volunteering in high school instilled the magic of helping. My career began as a counselor in a Juvenile Hall when I was age 26 and grew to working at the Betty Ford Center, with families involved with Child Protection Services, and as a therapist with a range of clients in individual, couples, or family sessions experiencing early onset of mental health disorders. The power of joining with another in their personal growth continues to energize my professional passion.

The client informs the goals. My role is to assist my client in achieving their goals providing understanding, appropriate interventions, and reinforcing successes.

The first session is an assessment for me to understand your story and difficulties and to ensure you know your rights as a client and the expectations for our therapeutic relationship to be successful.
