My name is Kristopher McLucas and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW) with a graduate degree in Public Health (MPH) based in Los Angeles California. I work with clients via telehealth and I specialize in providing individual and family therapy to adolescent and adult clients who have experienced complex trauma such as sexual assault, intimate partner abuse, gang violence, gun violence, incarceration; depression; anxiety; workplace stress, burnout; substance misuse; anger management issues; men's health; and life transitions. As a mental health therapist, I work collaboratively with my clients from a strengths-based perspective to assist them in their personal and professional journeys.
My approach
I utilize different theoretical orientations to customize my client's therapeutic experiences and to meet them where they are in their journeys. However, I often use Cognitive Behavioral and Solution-Focused strategies to help my clients navigate their challenges.
My focus
My approach and therapeutic style are good for adolescents and adults who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and cannot seem to get out of their own heads. These feelings can contribute to stress and depression which often leads to undesired behaviors.
My communication style
As a therapist, I create a safe and non-judgmental space by being a calm and present sounding board for my clients to authentically express their thoughts and feelings.
My journey to mental healthcare
My goal is to help people overcome the pain and hurt that prevents them from living the lives they want to live. As a therapist, I have an opportunity to work closely with people to help them figure out what is causing their pain and identify what steps they can take to overcome it. My drive and passion for this work come from seeing my clients have breakthroughs and new insights that allow them to leave their pain in the past. Also, my drive and passion come from using my work to break mental health stigma and create spaces for people who might not traditionally seek out therapy as an option.
My goals for you
My clients and I collaboratively set goals for our work together, based on what they are able and willing to change at the moment. As a client, you create the goals you have for our time together and my role is to help you on your path to accomplishing them.
My first session with you
In our first session, you can expect a safe and collaborative space to discuss your goals for therapy and the barriers that have hindered you up to this point. I will spend the majority of the time asking you questions and getting to know you and the experiences that brought you into therapy.
