Hi, I'm Maria Littleton! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I will meet you with empathy, compassion, and support as we journey through the difficulties that bring you here. I use a client-centered approach to working with clients in support of achieving the changes you desire.
My approach
I am here to be of support to you on your journey and to listen to YOUR story. I will guide you to unlock the doors that have hidden the secrets to releasing you from your pain and that which prevents you from experiencing true freedom in happiness and joy. I focus on holistic modalities and modern psychotherapy.
My focus
Areas I support clients with include: having difficulties in coping with daily life, having been impacted by trauma and/or generational trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, difficult life transitions (eg. a break-up, separation, or divorce), relational issues, overstimulation of your surroundings, unable to control energetic sensations, and much more.
My communication style
Clients have commented that working with me is like talking to a friend who listens and at the same time offers expert recommendations. I understand the difficulties that bring you to therapy and part of my focus is making you feel as comfortable as possible, while at the same time supporting you with achieving the goals you set out to achieve.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have known that I wanted to be a therapist at an early age; always interested in people and culture, getting to know them, what their story is, and how relationships work. In pursuit of learning more about others through various courses in college ranging from biology, psychology, anthropology, archeology, sociology, and more; I began to narrow my focus on what needs were not getting met. This led me to my career in psychotherapy. As a clinician who has been practicing for over 12 years, I have noticed that there is no shortage of individuals who require the support of a professional who can address their mental health concerns; this trend drives me to continue my work.
My goals for you
My first step in approaching goal setting with clients is to gather information about what they are struggling with and how it is affecting them now. Then, I review what has and has not worked for the client in trying to address the concerns on their own. After we have discussed these things, I support the client in developing SMART goals focused specifically on the concerns they disclosed.
My first session with you
During the first session with me, a client can expect to be met with warmth and empathy. My focus during our first session is to establish rapport or a secure therapeutic relationship. While I am getting to know my client better, I am also giving them the opportunity to get to know me as their therapist.
